Many say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Have you ever wondered the origin of this phrase? “In many ways, the breakfast is the most important meal of the day, because it is the meal that gets the day started,” Lenna F. Cooper, B.S., writes in a 1917 issue of Good Health Magazine, “It should not be eaten hurriedly, and all the family, so far as possible, should partake of it together. And above all, it should be made up of easily digested foods, and balanced in such a way that the various food elements are present in the right proportions. It should not be a heavy meal, consisting of over five to seven hundred calories,” Cooper’s article continues.
I love how he says that it is the perfect way for family to eat together. In our home creating healthy habits is something we are always working on. For us, if we eat a healthy breakfast, we make healthy choices throughout the day. It sets the tone for our ability to control our appetites.
This week I have shared some of our favorite healthy breakfasts that help us jumpstart our day. Avocado power toast is a simple yet healthy start for your day. Toast your favorite healthy bread add cottage cheese and avocado on top. The strawberry peach smoothie is a quick and easy breakfast or snack. It is something that we mix and match but always use the same base. Finally these no bake powerballs are a favorite in our home! Kids love them and are an excellent replacement for other sweet treats.
