Quick Wheat Bread: rich, dense wheat bread that is mixed in 5 minutes but baked in 60.
Fresh bread makes every meal better! I love when I can add that little homemade touch to my meal. However most days I don’t have the time to wait for bread to rise or yeast to grow. I want bread, but not the time it takes to create it.
Well this quick wheat bread recipe has changed my life and my family! We love this non-yeast bread. It has a crunchy shell, but rich, soft interior. It reminds me a little of the Great Harvest wheat bread. Same texture and flavor. Plus it only takes 5 minutes to mix up and then an hour later you have warm bread to add to any meal.
Ingredients
- 4 c wheat flour
- 2 c white flour
- 1 c sugar
- 2 t salt
- 3 1/2 c milk
- 1/2 c white vinegar
- 2 t baking soda
Instructions
- Mix together dry ingredients.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, vinegar and baking soda until light and foamy.
- Add dry ingredients and mix well.
- Pour into 2 greased bread pans and bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes.
- Slice and serve warm with jam and butter.
I was a little unsure the first time I made it because the dough is moist. It isn’t the texture as a kneadable dough but reminded me more of like banana bread. I made it twice in the same day to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind but that is how the dough is. You just divide it into two bread pans and you are set!
I love how my children devour this bread. Maybe because there is wheat inside it I feel like they are being a little healthier. But really it has become at least a weekly recipe in our home.
Try it today and you will see just what I mean!
