- Dissolve yeast in warm water (add 1t. sugar).
- In a separate bowl, mix liquid ingredients.
- Add yeast once it’s doubled in size and mix in dry ingredients (add flour slowly).
- Let dough double in size (about 45 minutes).
- Take a handful of dough, about 2 inch ball, and roll it in the butter mixture.
- Place dough balls into the bread pan. I can usually get 8-10 balls per pan.
- Cover and let rise again until it has doubled in size. (About 30 minutes).
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
- With a pastry brush, spread butter over the tops of the warm loaves.
I love that I can make it while the rest of my meal is prepared. It does take a little time to make because the recipe uses yeast. However the first step creating the dough, takes ten minutes. Then you let it rise for 40 minutes. The next step takes 5 minutes to load the bread pans. Then you let it rise for 30 minutes and the final step is baking.
Once your dough has risen the first time. You grab a handful of dough (2×2 inches), roll it in the butter, garlic, parsley mixture and place it in your bread pan. It works best to pull the ball into a 2×4 inch rectangle and then place all of the rectangles together. You can leave the balls but they will only clump on the top. You’ll repeat this step 8-10 times depending on how much dough you have. The recipe will make 2 bread pans of garlic bread.
How to make bread in a flash.
In a hurry? Some people like to grab Rhodes roll dough. Butter each roll and plop them into the bread pan. I hadn’t even seen or heard of Rhodes dough until I was in college. My mom always just made her bread from scratch. I have used it occasionally but love following her recipes from scratch.
